Various Questions

Question: How would you read 2Peter 1:5-11, Matthew 28:11-30, John 6:37, and say how you would use these verses go give assurance to somebody who is struggling with doubts about their Salvation?

Taking each reference in turn;

2Peter 1:5–11:

This was written in AD 60–61, very close to the Dispensation change of Acts 28:25–28, in AD 62–63!   Paul is very fluently showing the best route to “Christ emulation” by the additions (not of saving Grace) but of the necessary qualities to progress to service with Christ Jesus in the pursuit of saved Souls, with the assurance that the sincere heart and effort, will result in “never stumbling”!

As one remains in the “flesh” until being with Jesus, when a “stumble” takes place; “He is faithful and just to forgive us” (1John 1:9).

Matt. 28:11–30:

The story of the “stealing” of Jesus’ Body, is rife amongst the Jewish population, even today!   As also is the story that His father was a Roman soldier, by rape! Also, that Jesus did not die, but “had only fainted”!

John 6:37:

This refers (IMO) to Jesus’ prayer regarding “sheep of another fold” (John 10:16)!   Jesus made clear often in His earthly Ministry that “I am sent only to the lost sheep of Israel”!  That statement referred to the aberrant Israel of the time, and all the way from the struggles God had with them from Moses onwards, because they would not adhere to their vows to God, made in Deuteronomy, and repeated later more than once!  The history of this aberrant behaviour is itemised in the Book of Malachi!

However; Almighty God had vowed to “save” His people Israel, which He will do in the absolute sense in the future!

The verse in question, was Jesus’ prayer to the Father, for the Souls of the Gentiles, who would become “first priority”, after the events of Acts 28:25–28; which placed the Jews in subordinate position in God’s actions, until the events of Zech.12:10, when they will be returned to prime position before their God!

That time will coincide with the prophecy of Romans 11:25–27; and Romans 9:24–33!
